Hello, I played this years ago, and I want to return to it for a new video. I remember there being like 12 endings, though, and I only got about 6 of them. Is there a way to contact you and find the methods to reach all 12 endings?

Hello there!

First of all, thank you for playing Athemore and good job on achieving 6 endings.

I just answered your email before I saw this post.

Cheers!

Hey there and thank you so much for playing! Thank you for your kind words and yeah, I do remember the issue you were facing with the resolution aspect.

Unfortunately, this was a very old version you were playing. I think it’s almost 2 years old. Either way, I still watched your video to the end. It was nice to revisit the past.

Since then, the game has been updated gradually. There has been added so much more content like: voice acting, the last companion (NPC), puzzles, multiple endings, multiple choices, more scares and more. About a year ago I released Athemore on Steam as well and now, I’m pretty much done working on the game. I’m only missing a few things.

Cheers

If you're looking at the reviews to get an idea if the game's worth playing, I'll give a short review and then a more in-depth one after if you really want to know about the game, feel free to check out my video.

Short review - If you enjoy horror games, with jumpscares and an intriguing story then play this game. It is alot of fun, the audio in particular is noteworthy compared to many other horror game's I've played. Just be warned, you'll have some hurtful things said about you by the bad guy (I've only just got over it). Just make sure you take time to make your choices as they really do alter the outcome of the game.

Long review - This game builds on the first version from itch.io, adding new content and presumably fixing bugs from the previous version. It was just as much fun to play through the second time as it was the first.

The jumpscares really got me, even one's that got me last time. The combination of the graphics and audio really does immerse you and makes you feel like you're in the castle, it's a haunting place.

Now this is a balanced review and I do have some thoughts about the game in a constructive sense. My raw reaction can be seen at the end of the below video, but I've also had time to dwell on it and have some thoughts which I'll go through briefly, both good and bad  (I want to preface this by saying that any of the below could be player error, so I'm not using them as criticisms because it may just be me being stupid)

Using the hint I was able to get across the puzzle to the vault door early on in the game, but the door wouldn't open. Unsure what else I could have done beforehand, as going on any further felt like I was leaving that area well and truly behind.

The prison are will give you nightmares. Awful place.

Having the woman follow me was very buggy as she kept getting stuck, to the extent that I just abandoned her in the end. Loved the addition of an NPC, but she just could not follow me at all (not sure whether to take it personally)

I found it difficult to make a choice when it said that I can't go back on it e.g. the crown can't be collected again, but that's more down to my own indecisiveness than a criticism on the game, I think that may have contributed to me not being able to conclude the game (an example was I didn't place the crown on the table originally, but then sat on the throne, not realising it would disappear)

Not sure if it was because of my resolution choice in the graphics settings but I had to place my cursor on a certain part of an item in the inventory in order to read its description (I play on 4k but put the resolution down to 1440)

I think if I'd had some sort of clue in one of the letters about the whereabouts of the sceptre I may have gone back looking for it but because of how vast the map is I didn't even know where to start once I got to the throne room without it

Like my first playthrough of the game, the latter part, personally, was not as strong as the beginning / middle. As you'll see in my gameplay, I got truly stuck and wasn't able to finish the game. I understand that some players want a challenge, a game that won't hold your hand at all. But my personal experience I wasn't able to ascertain from the notes I collected what I was meant to do with the jars of blood (I found the room just not where to put them). I also found that once I sat on the throne wearing the crown and it disappeared, I was at a loss on what to do next. Maybe that was just my particular ending, stuck in that cursed place forever, so if that's the case then it was my own fault for poor decision-making.

Overall, I love this game. For those reading, I've talked to the developer a couple of times now and I can tell he's passionate about it, and I appreciate he took the time to reach out to such a small content creator to ask if I'd give the game a go. Hence I took the time to give my full thoughts on the game. Well done you've made a brilliant game, and whereas the final third of the game may not be to my fancy, the rest of my time playing the game more than made up for it. Check out my video if you want to see someone terrified try and get through this evil castle. (If you want to see my gameplay of another one of his, then make sure to subscribe :) )

Hello Rhys and thank you so much for playing once again. I really do appreciate you spending your time doing an entertaining video and leaving such a great and thorough review.

Those scares seemed to get to you. I was very entertained watching you playing. I would never have guessed you became that scared of Audrey..LoL

As you mentioned a couple of times in your video, that the game isn’t holding your hand. This is definitely true and fully intended, because that’s how I mainly prefer games to be like, when I’m playing myself. Likewise I really like games that offer the possibility of making my own decisions during gameplay. This is also the concept I usually prefer to develop my games around. Likewise I try not to make my games too linear. Some players find it very difficult and not their cup of tea, while others really enjoy it. It’s impossible to please everyone.

In the early versions, I didn’t even have any warnings within the decision making panel. I added those, to indicate that the choice the player was able to take, had consequences. However, I might be more clear about how I want to inform the player if items can disappear or something.

The journal system has been added to the game very recently, to help the player, because I must admit, that the game was definitely missing it.

About the floor-puzzle - You aren’t supposed to skip the last two glyphs by jumping over. It’s intended that you would have to do the combination by starting with the first glyph and ending with the third: ABC-ABC-ABC and so on. Then the big metal door will open. However, the floor-puzzle seemed to have a bug not registering one of the floorplates you stood on. I will admit that’s a glitch and I will take a closer look into that issue. The vault area is however optional, and only contains loot.

I did actually fix the inventory item tooltip glitch about a week ago, but unfortunately, you did your recording just before that update. It wasn’t your resolution. The skewed text UI issue was however, so I’ll look into that.

When you decided to put on the crown and sit down on the throne it disappeared from your inventory, because it was on your head. The whole idea behind it is that you're becoming possessed by the king and aren't able to zone back. I know the game isn’t showing anything to indicate that. It’s still on my todo list. Likewise, when you decide to put on the crown. It narrows down to only two possible endings.

About the blood ritual - You needed fresh blood to do the ritual. There were only two sources of fresh blood. Yours and Audreys. If you chose to kill Audrey, she would have dropped a drawing about the blood ritual and the scepter.

About Audrey’s AI - Yes, there’s definitely something to improve upon. And even though it's one of the most difficult things for me to improve upon, it’s going to happen, when I have the time. However, it wasn’t necessary for you to have her to follow your every footstep  :)

Even though you didn’t get to an ending, I’m still truly glad you enjoyed the overall game experience.

Cheers

Made a video for the steam version

(+1)

Hey, thanks for playing and for the video so fast!

First of all, just to clarify. Of course you guys are within the credits :)

That king jumpscare getting stuck in front of you, wasn’t supposed to do that lol. Good thing it got rid of itself. I was kinda worried it wouldn’t disappear.

It happened because you were grabbed right at that same moment, where you took the crown. So that’s something for me to fix. I appreciate, you showcased that glitch though.

The ghost in the prison who was blocking the entrance and grabbed you through the wall. He has been temporarily fixed, so he now gets disabled every time he kills the player and then spawn again over a period of time. I’m currently working on a way more advanced AI. One that can’t grab the player through walls, that’s for sure.

When you were about to make a decision, I also noticed some skewed UI too. It has something to do with the resolutions. I’m going to work on that.

The reason you died within the throne room was because you were standing in the fire for too long. I’m going to add some damage-taken indicators at some point.

It was good you managed to end the game after all, because your options were limited, since you needed access to the prison area to unlock the other ending options.

Finally, good job on finding my little secret chamber. :D

Cheers

A little late on posting this but we had a great time searching for loot! Intriguing lore and fun gameplay, definitely glad we checked this out :)
(+1)

Thanks for playing. Better late than never!

I’m glad you had a good time playing. It sounded like you guys were having a lot of fun and I was having a good time watching as well.

Athemore is coming to Steam soon, therefore we are currently working on finishing up a large update, which is also going to be the “final” version. This update will include more content like the missing NPC, voice acting for the NPC + the player character, more scare events, more enemies, new choices to make and much more.

Cheers

i claimed it here. Do i also need to pay for the steam version beacuse no updates will be here

Heyo! GJ with the game, it's looking good so far.

Thank you for playing. Glad you enjoyed!

Hello

Thank you so much for spending that much time within my game. It definitely tells me that you enjoyed it somehow. Good job achieving 5 various endings :)

I have watched every minute of your video and read your feedback as well.

There’s definitely some flaws in your version, where the crown disappears for instance. I believe I have fixed those issues in the latest version.

The same goes for the mouse cursor appearing on the screen when pressing escape.

The objectives with the ritual and so, are just some quick brainstorming I did. It’s not fully thought through. It’s very likely I'm going to make some changes on the matter in the future.

I agree that some jumpscares seem cheap. Even though jumpscares aren't my strongest suit, I still have to give them some more love and attention at some point, because I want them to be scary.

From the replayability point of view. My thoughts are to make events more randomized and unpredictable. Same goes for the loot spawn locations and the dungeon level design. Unfortunately, this will take some time to implement, because I also have other unfinished projects.

If you are interested in how to achieve all the endings, I have a document which describes what to do. At the moment, there’s also two unachievable endings, because I haven’t finished the stuff, which can trigger those. So theoretically, you completed 5/10 endings.

Cheers

I liked the skyrim/darksouls feel of the game

Hello Stonewolf. Thank you so much for your support. It really means a lot.

I have watched your playthrough and I want to congratulate you on achieving the next best ending. Good job :)

I’m glad that you enjoyed playing.

Bro incredible job, once again. I loved it and shared it on stream with everyone. Had a great time, and yes. You scared me a some points lol

Hello Ninja, thanks again for playing and your video.

I have now watched your video and I’m glad you enjoyed playing.

You have some fast reading abilities ;)

Good job finishing the game.

Sorry for the delayed responce, made a video a couple weeks ago but forgot to post it here or email because of the holidays. Really enjoyed the game! Its got a lot of promise and I very excited to see where it goes! It was super spooky, very dark (and im very afriad of the dark), and made me need to change my pants a few times through the game lol!

For the most part I had a very great time, all up until right befor ethe cathedral were theres that pit and the board you have to jump across. If you wind up dying before the next check point, and theres a fair chance you could, you wind up back at the beginning of the pit, but the board has fallen, making the way across again, EXTREMELY difficult! Tried several time to find the next ok spot to jump on and felt like i just got very lucky with it and if it wasnt for making a video I would have given up, althoguh i did give up at one point and just restarted from the very beginning again.

With all that, I feel like i wasnt very happy with the ending I got, didnt really feel like an ending and I expected to respawn at any moment, until I wound up at the menu. I know this has already been adressed and hope to see the save file implemented at some point or at least being able to respawn after an ending. I definitly want to try again at some point in the future for a better ending! Dont know if you got to watch the video yet, but I hope you enjoy!

(+1)

Thank you for playing, your video and your feedback!

No worries, better late than never :)

I have watched your playthrough.

First of all, I’m truly sorry about the missing checkpoint. That was my mistake. It has already been addressed a few patches ago.  The reason why the planks are falling into the hole, is because I don’t want players to backtrack all the way back to start (armory) after collecting the crown. Some players have actually done that in the past. They were confused and unable to finish the game. I’m glad you kept trying. I also have to admit it was a great jump you did. I didn't even think it was possible. So thumbs up.

Just to clarify, if you would have died to the lost souls, you would have respawned at the entrance to the cathedral.

The game ended because you were finished with the game. There isn't any more content to explore. You got that ending because you used the cursed blood. I could, as a developer, leave the stone door open (coffin room), but I don’t think that would do anything special, only to confuse the player about what to do next.

The torch was also bugged. It has been fixed.

I have tried tweaking the default brightness of the game also. I’ve had some complaints about it being too dark from others too. However I have some issues with Unity on the matter.

I do appreciate your feedback, however I’m a little sad to see, you didn't play one of the latest versions at the time. I have been working hard since the first release, fixing a lot of glitches like those you were experiencing above. But if your recording is older than that, please just forget what I just wrote.

A little pointer for you. I had trouble hearing the game audio in your video. You might want to increase the volume a little bit. Obviously, I know there’s random audio whispers in the game, and that’s why you suddenly get interrupted from time to time, but I don’t think your viewers do. Just keep that in mind :)

Other than that, great content. I had fun watching. I guess I owe you a new pair of pants :D

Keep it up.

Cheers

This is something I need more of in my life! haha, it's always: I'm trapped in a house, or in an apartment, with some sort of monster. But a game like this from an indie dev is absolutely awesome, it takes the spooks to another level! Unfortunately, my fate was sealed during my playthrough haha looking forward to more dev!

Great work!

(+1)

Thanks for playing, your video and your feedback!

I agree that many indie horror games are all about walking around in houses/apartments. I can’t really tell if the majority of players prefer that style or not. Either way, I always try to create my own games as I would like to play them myself.

I’m glad you liked the atmosphere. I bought this cool dungeon asset package a while back, so I thought it needed to be showcased by making a game out of it.

That particular jumpscare in the prison seems to scare a lot of players :)

About the audio - The torch being on/off doesn’t have an impact on the random voices. However I might consider making it do that in the upcoming release. It’s actually a good idea :)

About going for another run - I suggest you wait a while, because I have more content coming up at some point. This includes the missing person, voice acting, more threats and scare events etc.

I subbed to your channel as well

Cheers

On my second play through i was only able to get average collector but i found a place i wasn't supposed to be. Cant wait to see the final chapter btw

(1 edit) (+1)

Oh, you must have been playing an old version. Because the achivement "average collector" has been removed. There's a new endgame now.

(+1)

oh really okay all the more reason to play a third time, thanks for letting me know

(+1)

A solid game with great scares, a solid story and good visuals. I did have an issue with the sword and crown but dev got back to me super fast about. 👌

Here's my play through without any ending, but it was super fun. 😎

Thanks for playing and your video!

I have now watched your playthrough, and it was very entertaining. The scares seemed to get to you. Too bad you were unable to finish the game.

You needed to press the numbers (1-4) to make a choice. Not by dragging items from the inventory. That’s why it didn’t work. There’s a few other players, who were stuck at these choice selections, so I’ll probably add some hint description of some sort, when the choice display appears on the screen.

The crown disappearing from your inventory on the other hand is a bug. Good job spotting that. I’ll look into that issue.

I’m glad you liked it anyway.

Cheers

(+1)

Hey, i didn't break the game this time :D

Wow, that was a quick return. I wasn’t expecting that so soon. Thanks for giving the game a second try :)

Good job not breaking the game this time ;) However, I still noticed a few glitches, here and there.

You completed the game, so well done. I hope you enjoyed the last part of the game too.

Cheers

(+1)

Other than falling through the map before getting the crown, it was a really good game, i wish there could be a longer version of this, more story lines, i was actually reeled in by the story reading the notes.
also, don't mind me hiding behind barrels and in walls most of the time :D
I will be playing more later on!

Thank you for playing and your video!

I just watched your video and yes, you managed to break the game. Sorry about that.

You are actually the first one to fall into the void. The funny part is, that in the very recent version, I did actually address the possibility that this scenario could occur. Therefore I added an invisible floor in the void to kill the player from fall damage.

After watching your video, I did some testing, and the same issue occurred to me as well. It’s because you are crouching close to the walls. It happens when you release the crouch button, then the player collider gets pressed through the wall somehow. I’m considering disabling the crouch function for now, because it doesn't do anything special to the game anyway.

There’s definitely more content within the game for you to explore. You were far from done with the game.

Too bad this issue stopped you from going again, but I understand.

I really hope to see more from you.

Cheers

(1 edit) (+1)

About falling into the void: It happened to me in the following way: during one of my first playthroughs I tried to open a chest while standing on it. It pushed me through the wall and trapped me where I couldn't come back, so I jumped into the void to respawn. I think it's in that small room with treasure and a spike trap.

I didn't mention that because I'm fairly used to these sort of bugs and since they don't "break" the game I don't give them much attention.

Also, there's a lone barrel in the storage area that you can walk through, it was probably an oversight.

EDIT: Regrettably, I can't figure how to get other endings. Will there be a walkthrough of sorts, even if just tips as to how change one from another?

(1 edit)

Thanks for your input. I actually saw this particular scenario from a guy who played. The exact same room with the chest as you are referring to. Luckily he didn't clip through the wall. I did some testing and it happened to me. That's why I made the invisble platform. How to solve the issue, I don't excactly know for the time being.

I didn't know about the barrel. Thanks for pointing that out.

About the endings - I have a document which describes each end scenario in detail. At the moment, there are two endings (5 & 7) which can't be achived yet, because I'm missing implementing the last AI. I'm truly sorry if you have spent time in vain looking for those.

I can send you the document to your mail/discord, or give some hints instead if you prefer.

(+1)

Send both please! I'll start with the hints, but if I still miss one or two I'll spoil myself with the full thing. I  just joined your discord server.

really enjoyed playing and the jumpscares where good and the atmosphere was really good keep up the good work

Thanks for playing and your video.

I’m glad you enjoyed it.

your welcome

Encountered what seems to be a bug on latest version: Trying to achieve other endings, I collected 0 loot  - not even collecting the crown - and then at Throne room, all doors are blocked (i.e. the left one is a wall so there is no way to collect the catacombs key).

Hello. Thanks for playing!

It isn’t a bug, but intentional that those side rooms are sealed off, because they aren't needed anyway if the player doesn't have the crown. The catacombs aren’t important either. I’m aware some players still might look for the catacombs key, even though it’s not to be found. So I have to do something about that.

You should however, be able to escape the dungeon via the stairs without collecting the crown, because the entrance by default always is open.

Just out of curiosity. How many endings have you achieved?

(3 edits) (+1)

Thanks for responding. Well, the stairway was blocked, just as all other rooms. I couldn't do anything and so I've restarted.

Since I was playing again after a game where I got another ending by entering the coffin, perhaps that what made the stairs remain blocked? Maybe they aren't reset on some occasions? EDIT: I also had 0 loot.

As for endings, i've got the best one (1) first and then 2, 3, 8 and 12. 12 was cool.

EDIT: i'll retry a crownless run right now by speeding through the game.

EDIT 2: I can confirm now that making a beeline to the exit with 0 loot results in all doors either blocked or locked at the throne rooms. Collecting loot does not change this after reaching the throne rooms

EDIT 3: Just found out an important item on prison that was overlooked since rushing to the throne room doesn't involve getting there :)

(1 edit)

Ah yes, I totally forgot, that I changed the disc’s (which is used for opening the wall) location to the prison, when not having the crown. It was not open by default as I described it earlier. My bad.

Having the crown, removes the seals in the throne room. Loot can define which ending you are going to get.

Good job achieving those endings. I’m impressed :)

Just achieved another (nº 6/12).

A question: what purpose serves the empty bottles?

Nothing at the moment, but they will become usefull, when I have implemented the missing person (Audrey). Just need to finish up the AI first.

(+1)

Hey Alan, I was one of those who you asked to play your game! I did a very long comment here too, maybe you can remember me with that now XD

Well, you didn't know that I also do TOP BEST games almost every month... and this past month, yours been seleceted to be on top 3.. so congratulations and best of luck with your projects!

(+1)

Hello Zakaria

Of course I do remember you.

I bet you play lots of various games every month, so big thanks for including Athemore in your top 3.

Cheers

(+1)

I had a really good time playing this, the atmosphere was good and the story was pretty solid. The jump scares got me more than I would like to admit but I still got through. Few bugs here and there and the compass doesn't work but it didn't ruin the experience so in my opinion it was good!

Thank you for playing and your video!

I’m glad you had a good time playing.

I do appreciate you went for two different endings. You are actually the first who managed to get out with the crown even though you carried the curse with you. Thumbs up for that one.

The dagger needed to be blessed for the good ending. There’s a holy fire burning in a secret room inside the catacombs.

  • I have seen the compass act like this from others too. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s resolution related.
  • I didn’t know about the collider bug. Good job spotting that.
  • Crouch doesn't mean a thing in this game. Don't worry.

Cheers

(+1)

Appreciate you asking me to try out the game, sorry it took so long to get this video out. I'm pretty sure it wasn't intentional but I had a pretty game breaking bug happen to me twice. I can't lie, it kinda ruined the experience for me. It may have been fixed already but I got jumpscared and flung my mouse around really fast and something about that inverted my controls. The first time it was just forward and backwards but the second time my mouse was inverted.

Ignoring that big issue, I really did start to get into the game after the crown section. The beginning was a bit slow for me but it definitely picked up when it needed to. I wish I could've experienced more of the game but I ended it soon after the controls reversed but apparently there's 5 endings??? That's pretty awesome.

All together, ignoring the inverting bug, this is a pretty cool game. Really reminded me of older games like dungeon nightmares and similar titles. Thanks again for reaching out and thanks for making it!

(+1)

Thank you for playing and your video!

I’m truly sorry about that weird reverse bug. I had no idea at all and definitely not intentional. I totally understand it ruined your game experience. I would have complained about it too.

I’ll see if I somehow can provoke that issue and hopefully be able to fix that.

The torch was bugged but has been fixed.

Something went wrong, when you died inside the small breach after the cathedral. The soul didn’t respawn. Instead it stayed, and was able to grab you again. That event happened a few times in a row and added up your total death amount. That’s why you died more than you should.

I’ll have a look at that issue.

You were on to something about 5 endings - There’s 12 endings and the total loot amount does have an impact on which ending you are going to get.

I do agree that loot collecting is not the funniest in the world, especially if it can’t be traded or something.

If you don’t know the Thief games, I would recommend you check them out. They are a little old, but I believe they are still very good. Unfortunately, the recent Thief game (2014) is nothing compared to the old ones.

I can’t really say if they fit your kind of game genre. All I can say is that I love those games.

Cheers

Comments below clip;

Let's keep it simple; WOW!!!

What a ff-ing great game.

Won't spend too many words on it.

Download it.

Play it.

Pay the guy.

He fully deserves it.

Best time ever.

Kudos and a big hug to all involved.

Thank you for playing and your video!

I’m truly glad you enjoyed it and thank you for your kind words

  • Good job finding 4 secrets.
  • It was also nice to see the map being used quite often.
  • The dagger was for another ending, but unfortunately you lost that opportunity by exchanging the crown.

Cheers

(+1)

I really enjoyed this. I can tell a lot of time and effort went into making it. The Elder Scrolls vibes I got from the whole game were great. The fact that there are 12 endings and 6 secrets to find add replayability, which I really like.

The only thing I feel was missing was a possible save system so I wouldn't have to start at the very beginning if I wanted to get another ending. I can see why you didn't add one though because it's a rather short game. I also really liked the cinematic ending for the one cutscene I did get (although, I wasn't entirely sure what was going on xD).

Overall, a fun game and a really cool experience.

Thank you for playing and your video.

Yes, there are definitely some Elder Scroll vibes to be had.

I might implement a saving system later. I do have the functionality within another project already. So it shouldn't be too hard.

You were on to something about collecting all loot. It does have an effect on the ending.

I also hear your complaint about too much darkness. However I’m a little surprised you had a hard time noticing the lost souls in the cathedral. I could see them fairly in your video. Maybe it was darker in your game view. I wouldn't know.

Either way, I will tweak the default brightness a little bit, because a few other players also mentioned that the game is too dark. Likewise I might add some brightness options.

The switch you pressed behind the shelf between the bridges opened a secret. You needed to backtrack a few steps to find the chamber. I was actually surprised you missed that, because of your thorough search during the beginning of the game.

The prison has two levers for opening the pit. You had them both in your vision a few times.

The blood you poured into the bowl was cursed, that’s why you got that ending. The letter on the table mentioning fresh blood samples for the ritual. Like in offering you own blood for example.

Finally, those flying things aren’t birds. Those are bats :)

I’m glad you had a cool experience

Cheers

(+1)

Hey man! I just sent you an email, but just in case:

I recently played your game and just wanted to say that it is really fun!

Unfortunately I couldn't finish it. I got stuck in a room right next to the throne room when I clicked on a bowl... I was playing for at least 25 minutes, and since the game doesn't have a saving mechanic (or at least I didn't see one) I didn't play it all again to get there. I might try again one day, or watch others gameplays because I heard it has 12 ENDINGS! I see that you put a lot of effort into that game, and you did a pretty good job. And even if you say it is a quick 15 to 30 minutes play, I felt like I would take much more than that just exploring it. So maybe a quick save mechanic would be nice?

I also felt like you took a lot of inspiration in Amnesia (I might be wrong though), props to you on that! Some environments felt a bit empty too, like the kitchen. So map design is a thing to think about in the future. Maybe more for aesthetics than pure gameplay. I disagree with one comment you got about being too dark. I felt that the light was appropriate for the game.

It was very unfortunate that I couldn't get to the end of it, but again you are doing great!

Congrats for your game! Hope to see more for you in the future!

(2 edits) (+1)

Thanks for playing, your video and your feedback.

You were stuck because you needed to make a choice. You should have pressed the numbers 1 or 4. Recently, I have added, so it’s also possible to use the escape key to leave.

Too bad you didn't finish. You would actually have been the first to complete it deathless.

I should add a save game mechanic, but it wasn't my intention when I first started developing, the game should be very long. However, I already have a functional save system from another project I can implement at some point.

About game duration - Yes, I did say 15-30 min, but I have adjusted it a little bit. It now says 15-45 min in the recent version. It all depends on how thorough the player is exploring.

Some inspiration comes from Amnesia, but mainly it comes from the Thief series and Elder Scrolls series.

I do agree, some rooms feel empty. It’s all about how much time I want to spend level designing vs other game projects.

I’m not quite following your critique about the map. Hope you can specify, because I’m actually quite proud of it. It’s totally intended to be inaccurate, because it’s hand drawn based on inaccurate information.

The game can definitely use more mechanics, but for now it’s just jumping, collecting and avoiding.

Somehow I disagree about the darkness critique too. But I might tweak it a little bit.

Thanks for your kind words. I’m glad you had fun. I hope you will consider going for another try at some point. You don’t need to record it again. It’s up to you.

Cheers

This is a great game! I'm impressed with the amount of work put into it, creepy voices in the wind, traps, ghost enemies and an adventure story. I didn't find any game breaking bugs while playing however the audio might need some work. I noticed sometimes audio of a ghost whispering would abruptly stop halfway through, the water trickling in the sewer level had a hard cut at the end of it's loop and it was dead silent for the ending I got (11). This nit pick is small and I'm completely fine with what's presented seeing as though there is TWELVE endings to the game, you did good!

(+1)

Thank you for playing, your video and your feedback!

I’m really glad that you liked the game.

You did a good job finding a lot of secrets and good thing you didn’t jump into the pit. You would have died.

I have worked hard the past week to solve a lot of issues, so I’m glad you didn’t encounter any game breaking bugs, but I did notice you had multiple potions in your inventory. That’s an issue I'll have to look into, because that’s not intended.

The random audio effects switches position every 10 sec, even if it’s playing or not. That’s why they break sometimes. I’m aware of this problem. I need to prevent the audio object from moving while playing audio. That shouldn’t be too hard.

I do agree that the cinematic view at the end could use some audio too. I might have something suitable.

I’ll also have a look at the water dripping effect. Thanks for telling!

I’ll also make it possible to use the escape key, when the player is stuck and needs to make a choice.

Cheers

This was so much fun to play! Really made me think of the creepy dungeons in Skyrim! Really kept me on my toes!

(1 edit)

Thank you for playing and for your video

I’m glad you had a good time playing.

Yes, there’s definitely some Skyrim vibes to be had. I’ve also pointed that out in my game description.

I haven't made a combat system, because it will take me quite some time to develop on my own. That’s also the reason why you couldn't collect any weapons.

Good job stealing the crown without getting caught.

I also enjoy seeing the map getting frequently used.

As you already mentioned, the torch was bugged. It has already been fixed.

In the prison - The missing switch was on the wall just behind the spiked chair. You actually had it in your sight a lot of times. I was hoping for you to spot it. The pit was behind the portcullis.

Audio SFX is randomized (scripted) in lots of rooms.

Yes the lid from the coffin had some physics issues. I have addressed that too.

The bad ending was because you poured the cursed blood from the bottle into the bowl. As Causo mentioned in the letter, he needed fresh blood for the ritual.

Cheers

The game is quite fun! I did, however, experience a game breaking glitch with my torch, but the developers were VERY quick to fix this!

It continues to amaze me that games like this are available for free! Thank you for a great experience and a great game!

Keep up the great work and I hope you all enjoy the video!

Thank you so much for playing and your video.

I’m glad you liked it.

I was almost certain that you were the first one to complete the game deathless, but unluckily the torch bugged on you. However, I do wonder how you could enter the pit area without opening the last door. That’s certainly a glitch.

I’m glad you tried some of the various endings. There’s 12 endings in total.

  • As you know, the torch has been fixed. From the looks of it, you didn’t play the “fixed” version. I can tell, because I did also address the heavy highlight glow on loot, at the same time. But luckily, you managed to complete the game a couple of times anyway.
  • It’s also on purpose that the player is unable to collect weapons. Otherwise I would have to implement a combat system too, which is too much work for a solo dev.
  • The physics issue on the coffin lid in the “coffin room” at the end, has also been fixed. Luckily it didn't cause any major issues.
  • Exchanging the crown and leaving the dungeon via the stairs, now comes with a warning message.

I do hope that you would consider aiming for some of the other endings at some point.

Cheers

Very very nice game.

I really liked this! The jumpscares were timed really good the atmosphere was phenomenal and i really enjoyed the story. The only thing id have to say is to add a few more enemy's who can full out kill you but other than that great job! Thank you for reaching out to me to play it! If you wanna watch my playthrough here it is!

Thank you so much for playing and your video.

I’m glad you liked it.

  • The torch automatically disables, when reading and enables back on, when you are done. It looked like you figured it out halfway through the game.
  • Just to clarify. The player said “That's Geoffrey alright”...as in a confirmation.
  • The lost souls were supposed to detect and attack the player if he was too close. I did something wrong in this version unfortunately. They can now attack again.
  • I have added a checkpoint between the bridges. Sorry for the backtracking.
  • The doors malfunction, when spamming them. I’m aware of this issue and I’ll address it.
  • You just gave me an idea for the prison area. It would be cool to add a patrolling warden for the player to avoid.
  • Why are you carrying blood?..You picked it up...you would know :P
  • The torches on the walls burn for all eternity. That’s the game logic ;)
  • Good job using the map. I’m always glad to see people use it frequently.
  • I might also add a chasing enemy of some sort.

I do hope that you would consider aiming for some of the other endings at some point.

Cheers

Solid looking level construction but waaay too dark

Thanks for your input. You are actually the first one to complain about too much darkness, but I’ll consider your feedback.

It was the first thing to occur to me.

Hi there, I am DragonExplosion and I am a Youtuber. If you like my videos, please leave a like and subscribe at my channel.

Thank you for reaching out to me as I really appreciate game creators like you who are willing to reach out to others to promote your game.

I felt that there could have been an introduction scene to Athemore as since Athemore is a medieval style horror game, it is difficult to get players to understand and immerse themselves into the storyline of the game as they are probably not able to picture what the main character does as a professional treasure hunter.

Some of the things that were done well in the game is the use of sound effects like whispers and other noises to make the player feel constantly at their toes. Moreover, the jumpscares were located at really good spots and good timings that got me pretty good XD and the usage of traps throughout the game to make the player remain alert majority of the time is really good as well.

However, some things that I found quite lacking throughout the game was the fact that even though Jerome is a professional treasure hunter, he doesn't seem to use any gadgets or equipments throughout his journey as well as the lack of storytelling about the shadows and other beings in Athemore. A game like this is really dependent on the storyline and game mechanics. It would definitely be better if there were more puzzles added into the game for a professional treasure hunter like Jerome to solve to show his skills and abilities.

More tense and horrifying moments can also be added to make the player's experience more scary and cool as well.

Thank you for reading my comment and I wish you good luck in your future endeavours.

Hi Dragon Explosion

Thanks for playing, feedback and your video!

About the introduction. Yes, I do admit that I would love to have a cool cinematic with a narrator of some sort, explaining the introduction.

Unfortunately, it’s not my strongest suit to create that kind of stuff yet. That’s why I just do plain text for now. However, I will not rule out it going to be added in the future at some point.

I’m glad you liked the random audio effects, traps and jumpscares. You seemed to find every trap in the dungeon ;)

I also hear your thoughts about being a treasure hunter. Then we immediately think of games like Tomb Raider etc. And you do have a point. There’s definitely some game mechanics missing in the game.

But then again, what can people expect from a solo dev. I would really love to make a complete Elder Scrolls type of game with towns, multiple dungeons and combat systems etc, but unfortunately I can’t. I simply have to stop up otherwise I will never finish making a game.

I managed to write a quick story within a day and came up with the idea that the player could be a treasure hunter. What I’m trying to say. The player’s profession could have been anything.

Since I’m a huge fan of puzzle games myself, I like your idea. However I have plenty of puzzles in my other game projects. That’s why I excluded those in this game. However I might add some in the future.

I do disagree that the storyline is lacking. There’s plenty of documents scattered around the dungeon. You also managed to read most of them. By reading those, you should as a player use your imagination to conclude what happened in the past.

I don’t want to make a game, where the player needs to read more than playing. That’s not fun. At least not from my point of view.

I’m going to add more events to the game as well. Such as scares, the missing person and maybe a chasing part, where the player needs to run.

I believe that’s all.

Thanks again for your honest opinion. It’s really helping me out

Cheers

Hey there Aces Games,

I already replayed to your email but I am also posting here just in case you miss it. Same words here are found on your mail box by the way:

I must say I am really thankful for your kindness, I have noticed that you have reached out to many small creators and streamers! What made me more impressed is that you seem to watch every gameplay video, which is a lot! I have seen that you even watched a gameplay video with no commentary (I am really impressed by your work ethics for your game, you are putting a lot of time and energy to read all comments and feedback)

With that being said, I have a lot to say (I already said so much on the gameplay video that I recorded, but in case you don't have time to watch it, I am writing the most important things to make it easier for you sir). Well, first of all, the game is so good, it really made my soul shiver XD! Great jumpscares! I was intrigued by the story and really wanted to see at least one person that have survived and being tortured on that spiky chair or being locked up inside one of the cells!

When I first started your game, I had Amnesia vibes directly! I kinda wanted to take those weapons! which gave me the idea to tell you that your game can attract a lot of attention if you do decide to put some combat action! Because I see that you can collect golden plates and other golden items, but it felt for moments (for me at least) that was added without any purpose! (The Crown had its purpose in the game)... I would have hoped for those gold points to be used to purchase some of those weapons and shields! I know this is a long shot, but in case you made that possible in the game I would for sure make an updated video about your game!

I gotta be honest, after being impressed and amazed by how the game looks, I started to lose interest by collecting that many golden items, UNTIL I saw that one person walking around by the Crown! That changed the entire feeling for the game and that was a game changing for your Athemore! It will be great to see some other enemies before reaching that point and maybe fighting with them!

I had some bugs and issues here and there, and like other small YouTubers already faced! There are moments where the frame rates drop a lot, especially coming across the first big open area where many torches are found! Of course, I had suffered with the torch of the player disappearing and not fully lighting the place ahead. And I did found another bug that I did not see it on other creators videos (I watched some, not all) It is where you jump to cross and down there are traps, I was falling down a lot and at a point I noticed you can actually jump and move around after you did (while the screen of death is still on)

There are some hidden areas which I found one of them about you XD that was a very nice touch and you are right about the GPU prices!

I loved the usage of random occuring voices and whispers, that was brilliant. Well done with that!

The simplicity of the map was suitable for this game and it made it way better. However, I noticed that the player have a compass down which shows North/South/East/West, this can be used on the map to help out the player or at least give some directions puzzles that have relation to the compass (like stepping on the stones in a certain directed way to find a hidden area or some sort of a powerful item). Otherwise, that compass has no use in the game (I think you have used that in other games of yours, I took a brief look to them)

I am hoping these are helpful for your game! And If you need more feedback, feel free to reach out to me again!

You don't have to but, If this is not too much to ask, I would really be grateful for you joining my YouTube channel because this is exactly what makes any of us continue doing what we do (making games or making videos) . It is SUPPORT. Here is the video:

Best of luck with Athemore, Zakaria Ghorfati.

Hello Zakaria

Thank you so much for spending lots of time within my project. It really means a lot to me.

Wow, that's a long comment. Probably the longest I have received so far. I always enjoy receiving feedback.

A quick response to the first part. Yes, I do watch every playthrough video which includes one of my games. Likewise, I always read all the feedback people are writing to me and I also leave a comment on their channel as well. It doesn't really matter to me, whether the youtuber has 10 subs or 100000 subs. When people spend time and effort creating videos and feedback, that’s the least I can do.

To the game

Unfortunately you were playing a slightly older version. Some of these issues you were experiencing have already been addressed.

  • The torch was bugged. You could turn the camera around to enable it. However it has been fixed by now.
  • There was also this heavy glittering effect on the loot items, which I have reduced significantly. It can’t be seen at long distances anymore. Something went wrong when I built the game (Your version).
  • I’m also glad you liked the random audio effects. I did however reduce the amount a little bit.
  • The dungeon asset is made by Triplebrick, so credits goes to them for making a cool looking asset package.
  • You were right that the static torches were causing the lag. I have halved the amount of lit torches at the double bridges (Halls of lost souls). It helped a little bit on my end, when I tested it. Obviously, the FPS drops can be improved upon even more.
  • The “Next Page” when reading stuff, has also been fixed. It should have said “Right Mouse to Exit”. This has also been fixed
  • The player (FPS-Controller) being used,  is the old one from the Unity Standard Asset package. It’s not the greatest. It can get stuck on edges in the ground, wooden beams etc. I’m aware there’s a new improved one available that I can use. I have already played around with it a couple of times, but I had some trouble making it work as I wanted it to. However there’s a new update available. I might try again to get the FPS-Controller implemented, and throw the old one far away.
  • I didn't know jumping while dead was a thing, but I’ll have it fixed asap. Good job pointing that out.
  • Sneaking past the lost souls inside the cathedral, with no light doesn’t make any difference. I probably should make it possible to do so however.
  • I’m always grateful to view the map being used often. Yes I should probably add some arrows which indicate the North direction. However, I did leave small hints on the map, such as the northern/southern bridge, eastern entrance etc. I think North always has to be pointing up on a map. I’m not sure. However if that’s the case, either I have to make a whole new map, which I don't want to or make a new compass label which is the easy route for me to do. Then I just have to rename some of the stuff.
  • The usage of loot has no point other than getting a great score, when the game is done. There’s probably too much loot in the dungeon. I might reduce some of it. I do share and like your idea including a marketplace, where the player can sell and buy new stuff. It could be some sort of town. The same goes for other levels /locations.
  • I’m also fond of the idea of implementing a combat system, but unfortunately it will take me years to pull that through on my own. But who knows. Nothing is impossible.
  • I have forgotten about that missing checkpoint between the bridges. I will add one.
  • Good job finding my secret hideout. It’s not truly identical to my apartment, but it’s close.
  • You were spending a lot of time in the prison without finding the two levers. I was actually surprised you didn’t. There was one on the wall behind the spiked chair. The second one was on the floor between the two wooden doors (180 degrees from Richard's cell).
  • You also mentioned the last person of the three. She’s not in the game yet, but I am going to implement her later on. When I have done the AI etc. I did consider if I should place her in a prison cell or somewhere else. We'll see.
  • You could have left the dungeon with the crown, but you chose to exchange it for the disc instead. As you already know, the disc grants your freedom. If you kept the crown instead, you had to do a ritual. That’s what the blood, bottles and dagger was for. I don’t want to spoil anything if you decide to go again at some point. There’s 12 ending scenarios.
  • Finally, I might add voice lines to the player at some point too.

I believe that sums it all up.

Thanks again for everything. It was very helpful to me.

I’ll be more than happy to join your community.

Best Regards

Allan - Aces games

Hey Allan, this is one of the longerst replays I ever had XD
I am glad to see you reaching out to other small creators, this is exactly how to make a name for your games... I really wish this game get picked up by a big streamer, like Jacksepticeye, this game is really good and deserves to be well known.

Best of luck,

Zakaria Ghorfati.

(+1)

Hey Zakaria

Thank you for your kind words.

Yes, I believe that’s the right thing to do, and hopefully I can benefit from it at some point.

And yeah, any big streamer picking up my game would be very cool.

Cheers

What a pleasure it was to play your game. Plenty of jumpscares, simple controls and a great atmosphere! I must have got the lesser dramatic of endings 😂 I was just grateful to escape.

Big fan of medieval settings. Big fan of jumpscares.

Check our my video.

Thank you for playing and the video!
I’m glad you liked the game.

Sorry about the missing checkpoint near the big hole. I have fixed that. Good thing you didn't jump from the balcony. You would have had to restart again.
The torch was also bugged. I have fixed that too.

Too bad you missed the crown. I might make it possible to go in and grab it from the breach in the wall and then only do the collapse after getting it.

If you want to go again, I won’t spoil too much, but possession of the crown will have an impact on what you will see in the throne room. If you have it, it will unlock new rooms including access to the catacombs.
I did think the idea of someone would look for the key in vain. I need to figure out what to do about that issue.

I did like to see that you used the map quite frequently.
Also good job catching that speedy king for the thumbnail :)

Finally I would love to see you go for another run. If you decide to do it, please grab the latest version, because a lot has been improved the past couple of days.

I also subscribed to your channel. I hope your community will grow, because you deliver good quality content already.
Cheers

Thanks so much again for giving me an opportunity to play your game. Here's my playthrough and my thoughts

Thank you so much for playing and your video. Too bad about the audio problem, but it wasn't that big of an issue to me.

The last lever in the prison was on the floor behind a pillar. The dagger could be used to offer blood doing a ritual, which grants another ending to unfold.

I’m sorry about the confusion about the stone disc. Maybe I should highlight the socket in the wall somehow, but I’m glad that Mr Meister could show you the way out.

Thanks for the tip about a chasing monster into traps. I actually thought of that idea too, but unfortunately I didn't pull it through. However I might add something later. Maybe at the bridges.

Cheers

(1 edit) (+1)

A wonderful little game with multiple endings, you are a professional treasure hunter, where your main goal is to find a specific valuable relic in a haunted dungeon, but beware of the dangers that lurk within, rumours say that no one has made it out alive.

First thing to notice on the game is it is very aesthetically pleasing and very well detailed, it makes you feel like you are in a very old dungeon , the mechanics and lighting are great too, further adding to the submersion. There is also some great use of ambient noises to make you uneasy thinking something is coming around the corner for you , but does it ? you will have to see for yourself.

Throughout the game there are hidden little secrets which contain more loot for you to obtain , they are in plain sight but surprisingly easy to miss, also in the game are some items that can lead you astray and lead to different endings which is a fantastic touch as it give the player more freedom of choice and play their game the way they choose and it also adds a nice layer of re-playability.

Overall a really great experience and definitely worth your time to play, maybe in the future there could maybe be some kind of combat mechanic or maybe a voice for the character going through their thoughts and feelings through the dungeon, maybe even some kind of sneak mechanic added when going past new monsters in the future should the game expand, these are of course just a few ideas and suggestions but the game as it is really is a fun playthrough.

Thank you so much for playing, the video and your review!

I’m glad you enjoyed playing.

You forgot to read the diary at the beginning. It’s basically just to learn about what happened to the other members.
Good job jumping on those beams. I usually fail from time to time :P

The torch did have some glitches, but it has been addressed.
Same goes for the heavy bright light on the glitter effect on items. It’s not possible to see items glowing at long distances anymore.
I was also aware of the physics issue with the coffin. I have found a temporary solution to the problem.
You were actually the first who got the Wretched ending, and I could see the soul was bugged. He’s supposed to idle. I have also addressed that issue right away.

I also like your idea about adding combat, stealth and new monsters to the game, but unfortunately it’s very time consuming to make those game mechanics. I do have other unfinished projects too, which needs my attention. But when I have time, who knows.
I might add another level (new place) and a marketplace/town to sell and buy new equipment.

I’m glad you are considering trying to run for other endings. I would recommend you to grab the latest version, because as mentioned, a lot of issues have been fixed. If you decide to go for those endings, please let me hear about your thoughts. You can just send it by mail.
Cheers

Just checked out the game, Got me a few times. Also I Learned to always follow the map... Great Job

Thank you for playing and your video.

I had fun watching and also I’m glad you liked it.

I like the fact that you called the jump scare beforehand, and it still got you :D

Good job using the map. I’m always excited to see when people are using it frequently.

The torch had some weird issues, but it should be fixed by now.

The handle behind the shelf unlocked a secret area, a couple of steps back where you came from.

Unfortunately that coffin lid at the end seemed to do some weird behaviors. I don’t know why, but luckily it didn’t break the game.

You got that ending, because you used the cursed blood from the potion you found in the prison.

Cheers

Hello, I played this game and I really liked it, good work :)

(+1)

Thank you for playing and your video.

I’m glad you enjoyed the game!

Good job on finding two secrets. I do also appreciate that you wanted to go for a second run to get another ending. Unfortunately, you missed checking out the catacombs in both runs.

I also noticed some weird collision issues with the coffin lid at the end. That wasn't supposed to happen. Haha. Luckily it didn’t break the game.

Cheers

Made a video

(+1)

Thanks for playing and for the video!

I always enjoy watching, when you guys are playing :)

Those coffin lids definitely had some issues. I have never seen that behavior before lol.

The crown was worth 5000 loot.

Likewise that heavy glow which highlights every item has been significantly reduced.

Finally, good job catching the King for the thumbnail :D

Cheers

Hello! This game did scare me a good couple times and the storyline kept me playing. The audio was amazing also, definitely kept me on my toes. The only bad thing I'd have to say about this game is the loss of frames I was experiencing and the torch kept getting stuck behind/beside me. This caused for some dim areas and it was hard to see. Other than that I think it was a decent game for treasure hunting for sure.

Thanks for playing and your video.

This was fun to watch.

I’m truly sorry about the issues you were experiencing. They seemed to ruin your gaming experience a little bit, and I totally understand.

I'm fully aware that the torch is bugged. I have tried and tried to find a solution, but unfortunately I can’t. I really hate Unity sometimes.

About the stuttering. No one should even play with 25 FPS or less.

I do know about this issue, and I will do a total performance issue swipe this week. My graphics card is very old, but it can run the game so it’s playable. Because of this, I’m actually surprised you had these troubles.

I’m also sorry that you had to start all over, because I forgot to add a checkpoint after the giant hole with the spikes. It has now been addressed.

After opening the exit, the remaining items become useless, because they are only needed for the other endings (The ritual).

In addition, I must say that I’m a little surprised you mentioned the game could need improved graphics. I would disagree on that one. It’s very rare you see indie games with this kind of graphics. Unless you are referring to those stuttering issues, which I do agree with you.

Finally, I’m glad you liked the audio effects, story and the scares. I’m also glad to see you used the map quite frequently.

Cheers

Thanks for playing!

I uploaded a newer version yesterday. It’s a little longer, if you are interested.

This game was fantastic, I loved the jump scares and atmosphere of the game, its best played with a headset on with volume on loud to give it that chills feeling with the eerie sounds. Hoping for a sequel as I felt like there was more to the story as I read the notes of a people that once echoed the hallways of the cavern.

Thanks for your video. I had fun watching every minute. I’m glad you enjoyed the game.

The ghost audio effects appear randomly in each room you enter. That makes the atmosphere very creepy. Especially with headphones.

I haven't thought of a sequel yet, but I think that should be someplace else. Unfortunately it will have to wait, because I have some other unfinished projects to complete.

Thanks for your tip about the map, but I don’t want it to indicate precisely where the player is, because the map is supposed to be old and inaccurate. I believe it’s better to let the player figure that out for himself. And it seemed that you did just fine.

Cheers

Ahhhh yes  I didn't think about that yes about the map.. now I understand. Looking forward to your other games.
